Paging Party Member #555...

An intriguing item in the Albuquerque Journal that I've just come across (hey, I'm still playing catch-up here...):
Some would-be spectators hoping to attend Vice President Dick Cheney's rally in Rio Rancho this weekend walked out of a Republican campaign office miffed and ticketless Thursday after getting this news:
Unless you sign an endorsement for President George W. Bush, you're not getting any passes.
An endorsement form provided to the Journal by Random says: "I, (full name) ... do herby (sic) endorse George W. Bush for reelection of the United States." It later adds that, "In signing the above endorsement you are consenting to use and release of your name by Bush-Cheney as an endorser of President Bush."
Given that there have been many reports over the past year of Young Republicans (some of whom are proudly calling themselves "Brown Shirts") crashing Democrat rallies and Democrats being "escorted" from Republican rallies merely for wearing t-shirts saying "Stop Bush", I suppose an "endorsement form" seems to be the next logical step towards the Republican version of this:
"I pledge Allegiance to my Führer Adolf Hitler. I promise at all times to show respect and obedience to him and to any leaders he may appoint for me." - NDSAP Oath (from the 1936 Party handbook)
Sad, really...

Historical Note: #555 was ol' Adolf's original NDSAP membership number. After the 1923 putsch, when the Party was "reorganised" (ie. made legal again in Germany), Hitler reserved membership #1 for himself.
